The Iconic French Cafe Has Sold

It's the end of a culinary era, the iconic French Cafe has sold. After nearly 20 years of running the business, Chef Simon Wright and wife Creghan Molloy-Wright are stepping aside.

It's been bought by one of New Zealand's most exiting chefs Sid Sahrawat and wife Chand Sahrawat, who also own Sidart and Cassia. Those restaurants won the Supreme Award and runner up for the Restaurant of the Year at the 2018 Metro Restaurants of the Year Awards.

The restaurant will be renamed Sid at The French Cafe. Sid and Chand promise the format and style of dining will remain the same but the food will change slightly to suit his repertoire.

Simon and Creghan will officially leave the restaurant at the end of September when they plan to take a little break to focus on their young family.

Given that the style of cooking currently found at The French Cafe is very similar to Sidart’s present discovery degustation menu, Sid and Chand have decided to transition Sidart’s existing menu into a formal Indian cuisine offering, effective from July 31st.
